The carefully worded statement does not mention if any money was taken from the banking hall.

Reports of a shoot out at Equity Bank Matuu Branch started filtering onto social media in mid-morning.

It was later reported that three armed robbers managed to disarm the police officers manning the bank before making their way into the banking hall.

A video later emerged on social media showing police back up attempting to breach their locked doors of the bank with gunshots reverberating.

The shootout lasted 15 minutes before the robbers escaped with an unspecified amount of money.

Police have embarked on a manhunt for the suspects of Tuesday's brazen robbery.
