Kisumu County County Executive Committee Member for Health Professor Boaz Otieno Nyunya has passed away.
Governor Anyang' Nyong'o announced that the minister passed away while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital while receiving treatment.
The 65-year-old was in Nairobi on official business before falling ill.

"Prof Nyunya, a widely experienced medic, researcher and a scholar passed on in Nairobi today morning following a short illness, at 65 years old. As a County, we have lost a worker and a team player who instilled visionary leadership and gave real direction to the department," Governor Nyong'o wrote on social media.
Governor Nyong'o hailed him as the epitome of professionalism and hard work describing Professor Nyunya as 'stoic and determined in the delivery of his mandate'.
The governor revealed that his relationship with Professor Nyunya went beyond the workplace as he had known his family since their primary school days.
Professor Nyunya joined the Kisumu County Government in April 2020 after working at the Moi University Department of Reproductive Health for 26 years and 10 months.
He is credited with guiding Kisumu county through its worst COVID19 outbreak in June as the Delta variant led to higher positive cases straining the county's health sector.
