A student who scored 404 marks in the 2020 KCPE exams has surprised many after she announced that she is ready to sell one of her kidneys in order to raise fees for her secondary education.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Marriet Achieng’ from Kipsongo slums in Kitale said her mother who’s currently working as a hairdresser, cannot afford to pay her fees at St. Mary’s Girls High School Bomet.
According to Achieng’, she has weighed all the available options and decided that the only way she can finance her secondary education is by selling one of her kidneys.
“I have no other options on how to raise school fees. What is at my disposal right now is my kidney.
“I’m not worried about the procedure of removing it. My interest is to see that I get my secondary education school fees,” she told a local daily.

On her part, Achieng’s mother noted that she is concerned with her daughter’s decision, adding that she has been struggling trying to find ways of financing her daughter’s education.
“From the day I received my daughter’s impressive results, I have not known peace. I have been thinking of where to get my child’s school fees,” the mother said.
Achieng’s case comes barely a week after a KCPE student who scored 401 in Bungoma offered to repeat after missing scholarship opportunities.
Her case elicited massive reactions, with prominent persons coming forward to help. Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and Senator Millicent Omanga offered to cater for the girl’s education.
