The main suspect behind murder of four men in Kitengela has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to the DCI, Benson Melonyie ole Mungai, 40, was arrested from his hideout in Kitengela town on Monday evening, where he has been hiding since he masterminded the killing of Fred Mureithi, Victor Mwangi, Mike George and Nicholas Musa.

His arrest comes a few days after DCI took over investigations into the murders.

“Ole Mungai was positively linked to the brutal killings after forensic investigations placed him at the scene of the crime, where it was established that he led and coordinated the killing of the four. Detectives are in pursuit of the rest of the killers, as Ole Mungai remains in custody to assist us with further investigations,” DCI said a statement.

The four young men; two brothers and two cousins were reportedly murdered after attending a relative’s birthday in Kitengela.

Reports indicate that the four were enjoying a ride between Kitengela and Isinya when one of their bikes broke down.

While working on the destroyed bike, the four were reportedly ambushed and attacked by locals who accused them of planning to steal their cattle.

The four died on the spot, with post mortem results indicating that the four suffered sharp and blunt object injuries on their bodies.

The murder of the four young men came amidst protest over the alleged murder of two brothers in Kianjokoma, Embu County.

The two were reportedly arrested for violating curfew directive, only for their bodies to be found in a morgue a few hours later.

The officers from the area have all been suspended, with the DPP recommending murder charges against six officers linked to the murders.
