Karugu further claims that she has been locked out of county cabinet meetings since April 2019.

Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu has sued the County Governor, Mutahi Kahiga for allegedly barring her from accessing the office.

Through her lawyer J Harrison Kinyanjui, the DG claims that she has not been paid her salary and allowance since November 2019.

Karugu further claims that she has been locked out of county cabinet meetings since April 2019.

The deputy governor filed the case at the Nyeri Employment and Labour Court, alleging that she has not received fuel allowance, among others she is legally entitled to.

She accused Governor Kahiga of treating her as if he had suspended her or terminated her, something she termed unconstitutionally.

DG Karugu further alleged that her official staff had been withdrawn.

In the court papers, the DG states that she has had to spend up to Ksh442,107 for fuel and spends Ksh15,000 monthly for her security as she carries out her work as deputy governor.

Karugu noted that she took the job and was sworn in as deputy governor on May 4, 2018, adding that she is entitled to a monthly pay of Ksh685,250.

The court has since certified the matter as urgent and will be mentioned on September 16, 2021.
