Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested two police officers over an attempted robbery with violence incident.
The two, Inspector Evans Soita and Constable John Kemboi who are posted at Spring Valley Police station entered a shop belonging to Stephen Kamotho within Kioko area in Dagoretti on Wednesday at around 11am.
They introduced themselves as police officers, brandished their guns and attempted to arrest Mr Kamotho who raised an alarm after a scuffle ensued.
Members of the public gathered to rescue the shop owner from the hands of the officers.
"According to a police report filed by the shop owner Stephen Kamotho at Kikuyu police station, the complainant detailed how two smartly dressed men who identified themselves as police officers, stormed his shop and brandished their firearms. They attempted to handcuff him but he resisted and raised alarm, attracting curious members of the public who responded in their numbers and rescued him," reads DCI statement.

The officers who had been overpowered by the crowd fired into the air scaring the mob, as they took to their heels.
As the incident occurred, Kamotho sustained injures on his left hand and stomach, was rushed to Nile hospital for medical attention.
One of the officers lost his police radio during the scuffle, but it was later recovered by police on patrol who had come to contain the situation.
"After conducting preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the gadget had been issued to Inspector Soita, who is the in-charge Lower Kabete Patrol base. The two officers were arrested and placed in custody at Gigiri Police Station, pending arraignment," said DCI.
