Three bodies have been retrieved after a two-storey building collapsed in Mamboleo, Kisumu with several people feared trapped.
According to area police, search and rescue operation are still ongoing.
The collapsed building was still under construction when the unfortunate incident occurred on Monday.
Six individuals are reported to have been rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) where they are currently being treated after sustaining injuries from the building.
Other reports say that some women who were selling food to the construction workers are believed to be trapped in the wreckage.
Regional Coordinator of the National Construction Authority (NCA) Eng. Amos Musau stated that the authority in May ordered a stop of works in the building for not adhering to building regulations.
Eng. Musau added that they were shocked to learn that the owner of the building resumed construction.
This comes a few days after a building under construction in Kinoo was brought down by the National Construction Authority (NCA) after leaning to the side.
