Deputy President William Ruto has condoled with the family of Kakamega High Priest Shem Shamalla of the African Church of the Holy Spirit.

In a message on Thursday, October 28, 2021, the DP described the deceased as a man of staunch faith and remarkable character.

“He was a faith leader with steadfast religious credence. His sermons were always powerful, enriching and educative,” Ruto said.

The deputy president prayed that God grant Shamalla's family, friends and church the strength and courage to bear with the loss of their priest.

“Our prayers to the Shamalla family, the church and the people of Malava during this painful time of mourning. Rest in Peace, my friend,” he said.

The priest was across national headlines about a month ago when he was gifted a brand new Suzuki Escudeo by the deputy president.

During a tour of Kakamega County, members of the public pleaded with DP Ruto to buy the late priest a car as he was a constant boda boda customer.

Shamalla died after a short illness, however, reports indicate that members of his church are not allowed to seek medical attention in hospitals in case of any illness.

He is said to have been 84 years old when he died.

Shamalla rose to the throne of the church’s leadership in 2014, becoming the fifth High Priest.
