ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s wife Mama Ida Odinga has opened up on the status of her relationship with DP William Ruto’s wife, Mama Rachael Ruto, noting that they are friends despite their political standpoints.
Speaking during an interview with Nation, Mama Ida noted that owing to their political affiliations, they do not meet or talk often. She, however, noted that she talks and consults with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta often.
“With Margaret, we’re easy but for Rachel, I know with the current political situation, she may not be comfortable but what Kenyans should know is that politics is not enmity.
“Even with Rachel we would be easy, but I know it won’t be easy for her. The spouse may not allow her to engage me for obvious political reasons. He may not like it,” she divulged.

As to whether she needs permission before meeting with Mama Rachael who is on the other political side, Mama Ida noted that she is an adult and has the right to make her own decisions.
I don’t ask for permission to meet anybody. I’m a senior citizen. I’m not mzee’s little child (smiles). There are certain decisions that I can also make. If I need consultation, I’ll consult, but there are certain decisions I can make as a human being,” she said.
Mama Ida and Mama Rachael were close during the 2007 campaign period when their husbands were on the same team. The two were photographed attending several events together.
However, after the fallout between Odinga and Ruto, their friendship reportedly took a hit.
As the country heads to the 2022 General Election, Ida and Rachael have their eyes set on State House as any of them could be the country’s next First Lady, depending on whether Raila or Ruto emerges victorious in the race.
