Over the recent months, the region has continued to experience cases of banditry and attacks on members of the public.
On the evening of Thursday, November 4, six people were killed and eleven others injured after unknown assailants ambushed a lorry ferrying passengers from Marsabit to Bardassa Manyatta.
The bandits are said to have blocked the lorry and shot indiscriminately at the passengers.
The National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the deceased died on the spot while the others were rushed to the hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment.
"The injured were rushed to Marsabit referral hospital," NPS said.
Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali visited the crime scene with a team of detectives. According to the governor, the attack was well planned.
"Clearly this is a well-calculated move engineered to inflict the highest amount of pain on the members of the Borana Community and to slow down the activities of the county government so that we cannot make any economic progress.
“Whenever there are activities that we plan, then the executors of these terrible acts normally move into action," he said.
