The National Treasury has slashed the Nairobi Metropolitan Services' (NMS) budget of Ksh26.95 billion to zero.
This indicates the end of an era for the Major General Mohamed Badi-led administration that took over the reins from former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
NMS has since February 2020 controlled the health, transport, planning and development, and public works functions of Nairobi County following the Deed of Transfer that was signed by Sonko at State House in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa.
In the new budget, the National Treasury slashed the budget allocated to the Office of the President from Kshh34.59 billion to Ksh8.13 billion in the current year. The deficit funds were meant for the NMS, which is one of the office’s departments.

NMS has not been allocated any money for the new financial year despite being allocated Ksh26.95 billion for this fiscal year.
This is an indication that the body will cease with President Kenyatta's term.
Its budget for the current year was an increase from the Kh26.4 billion it was given for the financial year 2020/21, with Ksh15.95 billion drawn from the Nairobi County Government equitable revenue, while Ksh9.7 billion would be generated by the county in revenue.
This comes after Anne Kananu Mwenda was sworn in as the new Nairobi County Governor on Tuesday, November 16.
