Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s cousin Mohammed Amir has dismissed claims of bad blood between him and the governor days after he ditched ODM for the UDA party.
Speaking to Nation, Amir noted that his decision to join UDA was based on his political ideologies and had nothing to do with his family.
He further noted that it is possible for family members to be in different parties, but still enjoy a cordial relationship at the family level, citing Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and his brother Tim Wanyonyi who are in Ford-Kenya and ODM respectively.
“There are other families where brothers are in different political parties, such as Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi (ODM).
“Family will always be family and politics will remain politics. I am doing what I feel is right. There’s a need for change. I am ready for any challenge. Politics is dirty,” he told the local daily.

Amir who is interested in the Mombasa Senate come 2022 criticized Governor Joho’s administration, noting that they have failed to deliver despite receiving resources from the national government.
“He received funds from the national government, but there’s nothing to show for it. As a leader, you must find a mechanism to help your people. Give us a solution; you have the resources,” he said.
Amir joined UDA earlier this week and was received by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.
By press time, Governor Joho was yet to address his cousin’s decision to join UDA and work with Deputy President William Ruto.
