Following the announcement by SGR, Kenyans expressed concerns about whether it would affect their bookings.
In March 2021, an SGR train stopped mid-journey after a suspicious bag was found abandoned on the railway line.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata said the train had to be stopped for one hour at Miasenyi before proceeding with the journey.
"We wanted to establish the contents of the bag that had been dropped at the foot of the railway bridge at Miasenyi," stated Elungata told the press.
According to Kenya Railways, SGR trains have been fully booked ahead of the Christmas season.
"The trains are fully booked up to December 24. We have seen a change in trend where passengers are booking for their tickets earlier," they said in a statement.
