Ugatuzi Sacco Officially Launched During Devolution Conference in Makueni County

Ugatuzi Sacco, an investment and savings platform, has been launched at the 7th Annual Devolution Conference in Makueni County. 

The Sacco is a project of the devolution family, investment, and savings platform launched by the Chief Guest ODM leader Raila Odinga, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, and the Governors. 

The Sacco aims to provide affordable financial services and training to empower its members.

The conference's theme, which kicked off on Wednesday, is 'Multi-level governance for climate change', bringing together 3000 delegates, all 47 Governors, and is the last annual devolution conference meeting.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana welcomed the guests to the first day of the conference meeting.

On the other hand, President Kenyatta delivered his speech virtually from South Africa, where he called on all levels of Government to work together in a commitment to climate change.

"The devolution conference has become a key platform on which both levels of gov't come together to reflect, evaluate & benchmark their performance on policy implementation and service delivery. Devolution has had the deepest impact on the lives of our people," Uhuru stated.

Odinga, CS Matiangi' and CS Keriako Tobiko all called for speedy solutions and collaboration in tacklingg climate change.

"Thirty-three counties have enacted climate change policy and legal frameworks, while others are at different stages of the same formulation. I laud ASAL counties-Garissa, Isiolo, Kitui, Makueni, and Wajir- which have gone ahead and established County Climate Change Funds," Raila Odinga added.

 "We have to deal with resource alignment. We have to put our money where our mouth is. We are facing challenges that we cannot run from. We cannot over-depend on development partners; we need to set aside resources to deal with climate change," CS Matiangi remarked.

"Climate change does not discriminate against tribes or political affiliations. We are in this together, and we must work together. It is important that we mainstream climate change and the environment in our political discussion," Keriako Tobiko.

However, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka did not attend the event but had been invited, according to Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo.
