2022 Presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi has revisited a dramatic 2017 incident where police pitched camp at his Muthaiga home for three days, noting that his wife played a critical role in ensuring he was not found.
In 2017, police raided Wanjigi’s homes and confiscated guns, later a hunt was launched for the businessman, but he reportedly into a secret area of his Muthaiga home where the police were unable to find him.
Speaking on Sunday during a function in Talaa, Machakos County, Wanjigi noted that his wife Irene Nzisa Wanjigi played a huge role in ensuring the officers did not discover his location.
According to Wanjigi, the wife took the police around the house without revealing where he was. He further noted that she remained strong and confident even though the police were so intimidating and used force to gain access into their home.

“2017 Uhuru alituma askari mia moja kwangu nyumbani, na walikua wanasaka mimi kama mgaidi. Walika siku tatu, walipatiwa court order waondoke, walikataa. Huu mrembo wangu alishikilia nyumba, nlikuwa huko chini, nlikuwa kwa nyumba, bibi alishikilia nyumba, hakulia, hakuonyesha hao watu ana uoga…
“Siku tatu hawakunipata. Kama unataka kujua mjanja wa nyumba, ule ambaye anajua kila corner kwa nyumba, ujue aliwapeleka wapi, hawakunipata, bibi yangu ndiye aliyenilinda mimi,” he narrated.
Wanjigi later got anticipatory bail that blocked the police from arresting him, it is at this point that he got out of hiding.
The guns case is still ongoing in court. Two weeks ago, DCI George Kinoti was found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to four months in prison for failing to return Wanjigi’s guns as ordered by the court.
