President Uhuru Kenyatta has snubbed the inauguration ceremony of his Tanzanian counterpart John Pombe Magufuli, opting to send Ministry of EAC and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed.

Being close neighbours, and having sent a congratulations message to President Magufuli, many expected President Kenyatta to attend the event, but he opted to send a delegation.

Kenya, Tanzania tension
Over the past few months, there has been some form of tension between Kenya and Tanzania regarding the handling of the corona virus pandemic.
While Kenya put in place tough measures to combat the virus, Tanzania was seen as adopting a care free attitude towards the deadly disease.
At some point, President Kenyatta ordered for closure of the border between Kenya and Tanzania after it emerged that track drivers from the country were spreading the virus locally.
Later on when international flies resumed in the country, Kenya put in place tough measures for travellers from Tanzania, with the Tanzanian government replicating the same.
Citizens of both countries were hopeful that the two presidents would meet during the inauguration to put an end to the tension, but that seems to be out of the picture for now.
