The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has announced that the country has lifted the ban on all inbound and transit flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The ban was lifted after the suspension period elapsed on Monday, January 24, 2022.
Kenya had banned all flights in and out of the UAE after the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) imposed a similar ban on Kenya on December 20, 2021.
The ban, however, did not affect cargo flights which continued with normal operations.
In a statement dated Tuesday, January 18, KCAA Director-General Gilbert Kibe had announced that Kenya will extend the UAE ban for a further seven days.
He explained that the ban was to remain in effect until Nairobi and Dubai resolve the impasse between the two countries.
“We have extended the suspension of flights to the UAE because we have made no progress in the talks. The talks have been happening and are still ongoing, but we are doing this in reciprocation of the similar ban. This is what the government has decided to do,” Kibe had stated.
DCAA had banned all flights from Kenya over allegations of fake Covid-19 certificates.
According to reports, rogue officers at the Ministry of Health were colluding with travellers and issuing them fake Covid-19 PCR tests to facilitate travel to Dubai.
