Hussein Mohammed, the head of communication on Deputy President William Ruto's Campaign, has hit back at COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli for remarks he made against the DP in Changamwe, Mombasa County on Monday, February 7, 2022.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 8, Hussein stated that the remarks made by Atwoli were reckless and unnecessary.
"The remarks by their 'ancient campaign expert' Francis Atwoli, are completely unnecessary and go against the tenets of democracy. For Kenyans inflicted with violence and death including in the context of elections, this is not a laughing matter," the statement read.
"Since the UDA Party leader William Ruto is confident of a win in the 2022 Presidential election, the usual sore losers want to take us down this path, where winning and losing becomes a life and death affair and consequently turn to what they know best, stirring emotions to cause violence and prepare the stage to reject the will of Kenyans," he added.
The DP's camp challenged Azimio La Umoja to assure Kenyans that they will be peaceful in the event they lose the August 9 general elections.

"This commitment and guarantee they should make to Kenyans, because every Kenyan is a stakeholder of this great nation. No one should seek to qualify answers on violence or cheap attempts to create crude humour," Hussein stated.
He noted that the Kenyan government through the DCI has decried the increasing number of suicide cases in the country. He highlighted that 483 cases were recorded between the months of April and June 2021.
A KNCHR report further linked the rise in cases to mental illness caused by a breakdown of socio-economic safeguards.
"We understand our competitors cannot comprehend this because theirs is a coalition of the elite to maintain the privilege they enjoy at the expense of ordinary Kenyans.
"Nonetheless, to use suicide as humor in electioneering, at a national health function attended by the Health Cabinet Secretary and presided by the Head of State and consequently finding it funny, is a demonstration of just how far these elite are from the realities and struggles of the Kenyan Hustler. The contempt and Thadharau' in it, is mindboggling," Hussein stated.
"It is such reckless and dehumanizing acts, that the 'Bottom Up' approach seeks to address, by decriminalizing, restoring and upholding the dignity of millions of hardworking Kenyans and giving them the opportunity to prosper. This is what William Ruto will address," he added.
While addressing members of the public in Changamwe yesterday, Atwoli asked neighbours of the DP is Sugoi to cut down nearby trees, alleging that the second in command will hang himself after losing to ODM leader Raila Odinga in August.
