Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Friday announced that he has called for a crisis meeting with stakeholders to establish school reopening protocols following President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive. 

The CS told members of the press that talks the team will be meeting on Monday, November 16, 2020, to plan for next year's school reopening.

"This is where we shall also discuss and affirm exactly now the timetable for exams and the roadmap for next year and as you are aware the children will go back in January next year and as they come back they need a timetable," Magoha stated.

According to Prof Magoha, the meeting will also make a plan on how examinations will be taken for the other classes when they resume.

14-Day Ultimatum

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday issued the Ministry of Education with a 14-day-ultimatum for MOE to plan and announce the 2021 academic calendar.

He had earlier maintained that the learners currently in school will stay put even as Covid-19 battles Kenya.

“I hereby order that they continue with their learning and examination preparations under heightened health safety measures; with all other basic learning classes resuming in-person learning in January 2021,” Uhuru said.

He also challenged MPs to use the resources available at the constituency level to support the State’s bid in preparing the schools for the reopening.

President Uhuru also reminded them to purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) necessary to protect the learners from contracting the disease.
