Deputy President William Ruto has for the first time opened up on what will happen to exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna, if he is elected President in the August general elections.

Speaking during an interview during his trip in the United States, the Deputy President said he will ensure Miguna returns to the country immediately.

He noted that the exiled lawyer is a Kenyan, and if he has broken any laws or committed any crime, there are laws that can be used to charge him.

DP Ruto added that there was no need for the country to allow refugees from other countries to come to Kenya while a Kenyan lives like a refugee in another country.

"We will bring back Miguna Miguna immediately. This is because he's Kenyan and even if he has committed a crime, we have laws in place that he would be tried against," The DP opined.

He added, "I don't see any need for having refugees from other countries while our very own is a refugee in another country."

Miguna was deported to Canada in February 2018 and has since been living there.

His three attempts at returning to the country have all been futile with the government issuing airlines with red alerts.

Only his first attempt was almost successful but he was denied entry upon landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

This happened about a month after he was deported.
