Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has left a section of Kenyans talking on social media after he was stopped from making political comments in a church on Saturday, March 6.
The controversial politician took it to the pulpit to air his political views but was soon stopped by Bishop Calisto Odede who was presiding over the service.
Linturi had been called to address the congregation in a service that sought to enhance peace ahead of the upcoming August 9 polls.
“People have been fighting because there is an individual who does not accept results once they are announced,” Linturi began saying before he was interrupted by Bishop Odede.
“As a church, we try to minister to people from different political backgrounds without creating any sense of animosity,” the bishop said in the event said.
A section of Kenyans took to social media to congratulate the bishop for his bold move to stop Linturi from making his remarks.
“This is a bold move from the Bishop. Church membership has no political affiliation and none should use the platform to drive certain individual perception. Church is a place for reconciliation not settling scores. Kudos!!!” @KenKennah7 tweeted.
“This is the kind of Bishop I would like , church members come from different backgrounds. Divisive politics out of the church. Kudos bishop calisto.” @JaneKabiru5 tweeted.
However, the senator went ahead to give his apology for the remarks.
“I’m sorry. These things can sometimes be emotional and I apologize profusely to the church.” The senator stated.

His remarks comes just days after the court dropped the case over his 'madoadoa’ remarks.
Linturi had uttered the comments at a rally in Eldoret where DP Ruto was in attendance.
