The Ugunja MP claimed that DP Ruto painted Kenya negatively to the outside world, something he says amounts to treason.

Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto's remarks in the US on an existing plot to rig the August 9, 2022, general elections, amount to treason.

DP Ruto while addressing Karson Institute for Race, Peace and Social Justice at Loyola University in Baltimore, claimed that the government is planning to rig the polls in favour of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The second in command claimed that the people's right to exercise their freedom may be at stake during the August polls.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, March 7, Wandayi stated that the deputy president made remarks unbefitting a person holding the second-highest office in the country.

The Ugunja MP claimed that DP Ruto painted Kenya negatively to the outside world, something he says amounts to treason.

Wandayi added that the DP should be held accountable for his remarks.

“William Ruto is on record saying there is no person on earth who can dare still his election victory if ever it comes. When did things change for him to start lamenting of the rigging of elections… In other jurisdictions, he won’t have come back and stayed on as Deputy President.

“He is casting doubt in the institutions in the country; he is projecting the country negatively before the whole world, what can be more treasonous than that? What he did and said out there amounts to treason in the sense that he is casting aspersions; he is casting the country in bad light. He is basically expressing lack of confidence, in other words, if it were up to him, the country’s political set up would have been overthrown so that a new one can come in,” Wandayi said.
