Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has expressed worry as the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations kicked off today.
Speaking in Kakamega where he inspected the opening of an examination container, the CS intimated that a few examination officials may attempt to open the papers before the designated time.
Prof Magoha was worried that the officials may seek to access the details of the mid-morning and afternoon papers before their planned time.
“The exams have not been tampered with. I want to urge my officers in the field to focus on the integrity of the second paper. There is a group of teachers whom we’re watching, who want to confuse our children,” Magoha stated.
However, he sounded a stern warning to any examination official attempting such an act saying that they would be held responsible.
The CS further directed the security personnel escorting centre managers to and from collection points to carry the examination papers personally while being transported before handing them to the relevant officials.
The examinations kicked off on Monday morning with candidates sitting for the Mathematics paper before sitting for the English language paper. They’ll later write the English composition in the afternoon.
CS Magoha also reiterated his earlier directive on political gatherings near schools maintaining that no such activity will be allowed till the examinations are completed.
