Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando has quit his Safina Party.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, Kabando revealed that he had arrived at the decision after consultations with members of his campaign team.
He noted that the party is not ideal in his senatorial bid. Kabando has since declared interest in the Nyeri County senate seat.
"After consultations with #KabandoCampaign, allies, stakeholders & a review of developing political scenarios in the party vis-a-vis ideals we hold dear, we have concluded that Safina is no longer fit for #SenatorKabando bid. Further details Friday 3 pm. We thank you. #NyeriFirst,” Kabando wa Kabando tweeted.
Since announcing his senate bid, Kabando has been hot and cold about joining either Azimio La Umoja or Kenya Kwanza alliance.

However, a number of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto have urged him to join UDA and seek the Nyeri senate seat on the party's ticket.
Kabando was first elected MP in 2007 on a Safina Party ticket. In 2013, he defended his seat under The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket.
Kabando joined Jubilee in 2017 but lost in the party primaries. He claimed massive rigging in the nominations and went to the ballot as an independent.
Kabando ended up losing the elections.
