Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has dismissed claims that he is shelving his Machakos County gubernatorial bid in favour of Wavinya Ndeti.
This comes after reports emerged alleging that former Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju would be contesting the Nairobi County Gubernatorial seat with Waita as his running mate.
According to a report by NTV on March 13, 2022, in the OKA-Azimio deal, to prevent infighting, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka pushed for Ndeti to be the Machakos gubernatorial candidate and Waita as the Nairobi County Deputy Governor.
Waita dismissed the reports, claiming that his opponents had started to sense defeat after he hit the ground campaigning.

The former Chief of Staff claimed that recent polls conducted within Machakos County show that he has greatly narrowed the gap between the likes of Ndeti and himself.
“It appears that my opponents are in full panic mode ..having seen the latest Machakos Gubernatorial race polls for themselves & how their candidate’s lead has been decimated by a first-timer…. in 5/8 sub-counties to a single-digit margin,” he tweeted on Sunday night.
Waita will contest the Machakos gubernatorial seat against Ndeti, UDA Chairman Johnson Muthama, among others.
Ndeti and Waita are both in the Azimio La Umoja coalitions, setting up stage for a vicious nomination battle.
