According to Kiraitu, his right to choose a presidential candidate of choice should not be taken as if he will force people to vote for his choice.
He said he will not campaign for any preferred presidential candidate in Meru ahead of August general polls.
"I have my right as Kiraitu Murungi to decide who I will vote for. My wife and I will be voting for Raila Odinga. But I haven’t told you to go and vote for Raila. Vote for who you want" stated Kiraitu.
Kiraitu said everyone will be voting secretly in August and even if he forces people to support his choice, they will still have the privacy to vote their choice on the ballot.
While announcing his support for Raila in March, Kiraitu said Raila should consider restoring Mt Kenya East that is currently feeling economically neglected and discriminated
He also promised to campaign for Raila to ensure he garners more votes in the region.
Among the other Meru gubernatorial candidates, Kiraitu will face includes the county's Senator Mithika Linturi who has announced he would be contesting for the seat on a UDA ticket.
Meru Woman Representative Kawira Mwangaza has also thrown her hat into the ring.
