Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence over the fuel shortage that has hit the country.
At a press briefing on Monday from his official Karen residence, the DP said that the problem was more local.
The second in command attributed the shortage to cartels and public officials, whom he termed oblivious, reckless, and incompetent.
“This is the result between the collusion of monopolistic cartels and economic saboteurs on one hand and oblivious, reckless and incompetent public officials on the other,” the DP stated.
The Deputy President went ahead to declare that the insatiable greed and corruption in the country is driving Kenya over the cliff.

Dr Ruto said that the current state of affairs is a clear manifestation of the result of the conflict of interest and state capture that is penetrating all sectors of the economy.
The DP added that it is the reason why the loudest messages from public officials in the midst of the crisis are centered on BBI and Azimio.
“This is why in the midst of this distressing crisis, the loudest messages from public officials including Ministers are centered on BBI reggae and Azimio jingle bells and whistles,” Dr. Ruto continued.
The Deputy President called on the National Treasury to account for all diversions of funds out of petroleum development fund and to restore the fuel subsidy mechanism immediately.
He maintained that the Treasury must rise to its constitutional accountability and live up to the Public Finance Management Act.
“We demand that public officials responsible listen to the agonizing cry of millions of suffering Kenyans and do something about the rapidly deepening economic crisis,” the DP remarked.
