Wisley Rotich is competing against former Police IG Joseph Boinet in Elgeyo Marakwet

UDA Party gubernatorial aspirant has gotten the attention of Kenyans after casting his nomination vote in a place that looked deserted and bushy.

According to pictures shared online, Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wisley Rotich, who is also UDA gubernatorial hopeful in the county could be seen casting his vote at a rather unusual polling station located in a bushy location.

It was later revealed that the station is a mobile one (Barmukwen Mobile polling station) which is located at Chegilet village in Keiyo North Constituency.

Speaking after casting his vote, Rorich urged all voters to maintain peace during the nominations exercise across the country.

At the same time, the DG raised concerns over the unending banditry menace in the volatile Kerio Valley region.

He said the bandits had already killed one person and injured four others at the Koibirir location Marakwet East region.

"I urge all voters to maintain peace during the entire nominations process. May God bless you all. It is also sad to note that as the nomination process is going on peacefully, armed bandits have killed one person and injured four others at Koibirir location Marakwet East.

Rotich, who is seeking to succeed the incumbent Governor Alex Tolgos, will be facing tough competition from former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet who is also seeking a UDA ticket.

The county's senator Kipchumba Murkomen was handed a direct nomination after no aspirants showed up to face him for UDA party nominations.

Murkomen will face off with Governor Alex Tolgos in the August polls for the county's senatorial seat.

Already, nearly all polling stations from the North Rift region have been opened after early-hours hick-ups that were caused by logistical challenges across the country.

However, through his social media sites, Deputy President and the party's patron William Ruto said the challenges had been solved and that the exercises were going on smoothly across the 36 counties in the country.
