Raila Odinga's Presidential Campaign Secretariat spokesman Makau Mutua has dismissed Ruto's UDA party nominations as fixed and undemocratic.

The distinguished New York University professor, who is synonymous with his fierce criticism of the Deputy President, claimed that UDA's primaries have proven that the nascent outfit is built on quicksand and thus bound to fail.

"UDA’s nominations have proven that it’s a rickety shack built on sand. Shambolic. Fixed. Undemocratic. Such a “house” can’t and won’t stand. We can’t wait to clean their clock on August 9. We look forward to eating their lunch everywhere, at all levels," he posted.

Mutua's comments come against the backdrop of vote-rigging claims and incidents of violence in certain polling centres where the UDA nominations were held.

Several aspirants in certain regions accused elections officials of working in cahoots with their opponents to influence the outcome of the primaries.

Addressing a presser at UDA headquarters on Thursday evening, DP Ruto acknowledged that the nominations exercise was faced with a myriad of hiccups in select regions.

The second-in-command noted that the party would have to repeat nominations in polling stations where the exercise was marred with chaotic incidences. Ruto also averred that the party will punish aspirants found responsible for sanctioning the pockets of violence witnessed in some areas.
