ODM Party boss Raila Odinga is headed for a big victory in the Mt Kenya region come August 9, general polls. This is according to Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.
While giving his opinion on how Raila is set to score big in the region largely seen as DP William Ruto's current stronghold, the Jubilee legislator said Raila's from Mt Kenya currently stands at 30%. This according to him, is equivalent to 2.4 million votes out of the 8 million votes.
The Kieleweke allied MP opined that once the former prime minister picks his running mate from Mt Kenya, his support rate will shoot to 40% (3.6 million votes). He went ahead to claim that the start of President Uhuru Kenyatta's official campaigns for Raila in the region will turn the tables around for Ruto.
Ngunjiri said Raila's popularity will rise to 55% also equivalent to 4.4 million votes, a move that will propel the ODM leader to the house on top of the hill.
Mt Kenya region has ~8M votes. Raila has 30% so far (2.4M). When we announce the DP from Mt Kenya it will get to 40% (3.6M). Once Uhuru hits the ground it will get to 55% (4.4M). Plan accordingly" opined Ngunjiri.
This comes at a time when William Ruto and Raila have been flexing muscles in Mt Kenya with each trying to win the rich vote basket region. While Ruto had been enjoying massive support from the region, Raila Odinga's current entry into the matrix seems to have swayed a number of the supporters, making Mt Kenya a battleground for the two.
Already, Ruto enjoys a total of 47 MPs supporting his bid from the region against Raila Odinga who enjoys 11 legislators leaning towards President Uhuru Kenyatta's jubilee faction.
Among the leaders who have been tipped to be picked as Raila's running mate from Mt Kenya include Agriculture CS Peter Munya, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui
