Jimmy Kibaki was speaking after President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in viewing Mwai Kibaki's body on Monday.

The late retired President Mwai Kibaki’s son, Jimmy Kibaki, has spoken about Kibaki’s health during his final moments on earth.

Speaking to the media on Monday after President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in viewing the late former President’s body, Jimmy said that Kibaki had been sick for the last three years.

However, he maintained that the last three months were the most difficult for Kibaki but he fought a good fight.

“Mzee has not been well for the last two or three years. There was a lot of focus on how to make him comfortable given his advanced age.

"But the last three months were quite difficult but he put up quite a good battle but in the end because of age and other factors determined that he had to go," Jimmy stated.

Jimmy said that his father had a huge presence in his life and it had not hit him that he was no more.

He however mourned him as selfless leader who was dedicated for the service of the country.

"I think maybe it will hit me when we bury him in Othaya on Saturday that he is not there anymore," he added.

Jimmy said that apart from politics, his father was a family man and his family always came first.

Kibaki’s state burial will be held on Friday, April 29 at the Nyayo National Stadium before being interred on Saturday, April 30 at his Othaya home.
