The government has announced another public holiday.

Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i has declared Tuesday, May 3 a public holiday.

In a gazette notice dated April 25, the CS noted that the day would be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.

"It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Tuesday, the 3rd May, 2022, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr," read the notice.

Muslims are currently celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan and Tuesday will mark the end of the holy month.

Idd-ul-Fitr is celebrated by all Muslims worldwide to mark the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting period.

The announcement comes days after Matiang'i announced that Friday, April 29 would be a public holiday.

The CS said that the day shall be a public holiday in order to accord Kenyans the opportunity to participate in the state funeral of the late former President Mwai Kibaki.

The departed retired President's state funeral will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium before his interment in Othaya Constituency, Nyeri County on Saturday, May 30.
