Deputy President William Ruto's led UDA party has announced new party nominations in Kiambaa constituency.
In a statement released on Saturday, May 7, the UDA National Elections Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura said nominations will be conducted in Kiambaa constituency and Nairobi South Ward in the Starehe constituency after the party's decisions.
The party said nominations will take place on May 8, 2022 (Sunday) from 8 am to 5 pm. The party, however, did not reveal further communication on what triggered the party's decisions.
"The National Elections Board has resolved to conduct the party Nominations for the following ward and Constituency by way of direct Nomination in accordance with Section 38F as read with section 2 of the Political Parties Act, the party constitution and the Nomination rules. 1. Nairobi South Ward in Starehe constituency, Nairobi county. 2. Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County" read UDA's statement.
The repeat nominations in Nairobi South Ward comes after the party on April 14, announced the incumbent Member of County Assembly Waithera Chege as the winner. His win was, however, challenged.
"The nominations exercise shall take place on 8th May 2022 between 8 am to 5 pm at all IEBC designated polling centers" added UDA party statement.
This is contrary to earlier reports indicating that there would be no nominations for the Kiambaa UDA ticket. It had been reported that the incumbent MP Njuguna Wanjiku will get a direct nomination ticket unopposed to face off with other opponents on 9th August 2022.
The nominee will be expected to face off with among others, Damaris Wambui of the Jubilee party. The former Jubileecandidate Kariri Njama who Allegedly missed out on the Jubilee ticket is also expected to be in the race.
