A video of children risking their lives to cross a busy section of the Waiyaki Way in Nairobi has attracted an uproar on social media.

Kenyans are now calling on Government to act questioning why the busy Waiyaki way at the entrance of Express Way does not have a crossing bridge or a zebra crossing.

In the video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the children were scrambling to cross a section of the highway that has no crossing signs near Safaricom headquarters in Westlands.

The school kids were seen running to cross the 8-lane highway at a section that had no zebra crossing.

A section of netizens took it to Twitter to air out their grievances about the struggle the kids were going through to cross the highway.

According to some netizens, the planning of the road was not done well and it was sad to see the kids struggle to cross the road.

"It's a struggle everyday. The kids have to go through this every morning and evening. It's sad how the planning of this road was done. No human dignity as a pregnant lady I have to pass through the barriers everyday," a tweep remarked.

"This is very problematic, crossed here yesterday surely safety of pedestrians should be a priority. They are the highest victims of road carnage," said another.

However, a section of netizens said that the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) had put footbridges nearby and that it could not put footbridges everywhere.

"There are two footbridges on Waiyaki Way, one just after the old roundabout to Westgate and another one after the start of the expressway. Should the government construct footbridges everywhere?" said a tweep.
