The date for the 2022 presidential debate has been announced.

The 2022 presidential debate will be held on Tuesday, July 26, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), the Presidential Debates Secretariat has announced.

In a statement on Monday, the secretariat further intimated that the deputy presidential debate will be held on Tuesday, July 19.

“We are delighted to confirm to the country that those preparations are now in their final leg and today we are announcing key details about the debates which will all take place in the month of July,” read part of the statement by the presidential debate secretariat.

In addition to the deputy and presidential debates, the secretariat announced that there will be a gubernatorial debate for Nairobi County which will be held on Monday, July 11.

The Nairobi gubernatorial debate will be conducted in two tiers where the first will feature candidates with a popularity of below 5 percent in three recent opinion polls while the second will feature candidates above 5 percent in the same polls.

Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s (KBC) Serfine Achieng’ Ouma and Ayub Abdikadir of K24 shall moderate the candidates below 5 percent in the opinion polls.

Those above 5 percent shall be moderated by Zubeida Koome of KTN News and Mark Masai of NTV.

Panel discussions for both debates shall be moderated by Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura.

According to the secretariat, the debates shall begin at 5 pm and end at 10 pm in the Karen-based institution.
