President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken for the first time on why he supported Martha Karua as Raila Odinga's running mate over other aspiring candidates in Azimio la Umoja camp.
Speaking on Friday, July 8, when he met church and religious leaders from the Mt Kenya region at Statehouse, Uhuru revealed that he settled on Karua over her character.
According to the head of state, Karua, despite not coming from his Jubilee party, is a principled, just, and truthful leader who is led by the desire to serve the people of Kenya and not her own interests.
In an indirect attack on DP William Ruto's camp, Uhuru said Martha Karua is a reputable leader who can never be swayed off easily and stands for what she believes.
"Despite the fact that we have not been on the same political side with Karua, I can say she is a principled leader. I don't regret following her because she is a truthful leader who is led by the desire to serve the people of Kenya unlike others who are there for their own interests," stated Uhuru.

Uhuru said he is ready to stand with people of Karua's personality who have clean records and have never been involved in any dirty underdoing.
At the same time, the head of state hit out at his Deputy William Ruto over claims that he abandoned him after the March 2018 handshake.
Uhuru pointed an accusing finger at Ruto claiming he abandoned his duties and went around the country doing his one campaigns.
"If you said Uhuru wronged you, then you also wronged me. We had a deal between the two of us but you became rebellious and went round the country accusing me. You have no right to seek leadership by lying, insulting, and stealing," stated Uhuru
His words came just hours after Ruto claimed Uhuru abandoned and even excluded him from key government functions and meetings including National Security Committee.
