A teacher in Baragoi Boys High School, Samburu County, has lost his life after he was sprayed with bullets by unknown gunmen outside the school’s gate.
Confirming the Monday afternoon, July 15 incident, Samburu North Deputy County Commissioner Jackson Oloo said that the motive behind the killing of Cyrus Kirukura was unknown.
The teacher had left the school’s compound at around noon before he met his death in the hands of gunmen who shot him a few metres from the school’s gate.
The Samburu North Deputy Commissioner, however, said that the police had launched an investigation into the incident.
"There are allegations that he was shot by unknown gunmen but our team is on the ground conducting investigations to find out the motive," Oloo stated.

Samburu County has in the past experienced frequent banditry attacks, with the government putting up measures to restore normalcy in the region.
Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i last month ordered a fresh dusk to dawn curfew in the neighboring Baringo County while he extended the curfew in Marsabit County.
The move was meant to curb the cases of insecurity in the region and restore peace.
“This order shall apply during the hours of 6.00 pm in the evening and 6.00 am in the morning with effect from June 4th, 2022, and shall remain in effect for a period of thirty days,” read a gazette notice by Matiang’i.
