The presidential debate was moderated by Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara and Eric Latiff of Spice FM. 

Deputy President William Ruto's wife, Rachel Ruto has congratulated the UDA presidential candidate for attending the presidential debate on Tuesday, July 26 at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). 

Ruto honoured the invite to attend the debate while his fierce competitor and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga opted to skip despite invitation. 

Rachel congratulated the deputy President for honouring the invite adding that he was perfect.

"Congratulations Bill. You were perfect. The last man standing. May God carry you through," Ruto stated. 

UDA deputy nominee Rigathi Gachagua also congratulated Ruto for turning up for the debate. 

"Congratulations my boss, our Kenya Kwanza captain for not abandoning Kenyans when they needed to hear from you. The articulation of our plan and your passion is admirable. Kenyans are confident that a real leader will shepherd our country into a positive trajectory," the Mathira MP said.

Odinga announced on Tuesday that he would not honor the invite saying that he would not share the same platform with a 'thief'. 

"Mimi siwezi enda kufanya debate na mwizi. Sina haja kuongea na wezi. Tukutane na yeye kwa debe," the former Prime Minister said during a debate in Meru County.

Tuesday's debate was moderated by Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara and Eric Latiff of Spice FM. 

Ruto was tasked with responding to questions on the judiciary, debt, security, cost of living, and governance.
