CS Matiang’i has ordered massive deployment of security personnel in regions marked as vulnerable to disturbance ahead of the general election.

Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has ordered massive deployment of security personnel in regions marked as vulnerable to disturbance ahead of the general election.

In a statement on Tuesday, the CS stated that the order came following the approval by the National Security Council for additional resources in the areas.

Among the areas marked as vulnerable to disturbance ahead of the polls were Molo, Kuresoi and Eldoret, all in the Rift Valley region.

“Following approval by the National Security Council for additional resources, security services will bolster deployment of personnel and equipment including aerial assets in Molo, Kuresoi, Eldoret and other areas in the country mapped out as vulnerable to disturbance,” Matiang’i stated.

He further added that a multi-agency command centre had been established in Nakuru County to provide support to locals drawing attention to security incidents for prompt response by security services.

The deployment comes after Deputy President William Ruto alleged that leaflets coercing locals to vote in a particular way were being distributed in the streets of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The while in a rally in Eldoret said that the leaflets were authored by officials from the office of the President.

However, speaking after meeting security officials in Nakuru, Matiang’i dismissed the allegations by the DP adding that eight people had been arrested over the same.

"We have arrested eight suspects in connection to leaflets found in Eldoret. None of them is an officer in the office of the President," Matiang’i said.
