Police in Nakuru have arrested the leader of the dreaded criminal gang ‘Confirm’ which has been terrorizing Nakuru residents for years.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, Nakuru Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said that it has been difficult to get hold of the man who was identified as Dickson Macharia Waithera alias Deco.

Mwanzo stated that the arrest of Deco followed an operation conducted by the police on Tuesday night, August 2.

The commander stated that Deco took over the leadership of the deadly gang following the death of the elder member of the gang who was popularly known as ‘Biggy’.

“It has been very difficult to reach him, but fortunately last night an operation was conducted and we were able to catch up with him,” Mwanzo stated.

His arrest comes after Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i ordered a sting operation to arrest the members of the dreaded criminal gang.

Following the operation, hundreds of the gang members have already been apprehended by the police, with a number of crude weapons seized.

On July 14, police in Nakuru shot dead four members of the gang during a night patrol.

Mwanzo, who confirmed the incident, said that the four had been taking advantage of the area residents.
