The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party leader has been airlifted from Bomet to Nairobi Hospital.

Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party candidate for Bomet gubernatorial position Isaac Ruto has been airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.

In a statement on Thursday, August 11, by the party’s secretary general Albert Koech, the former Bomet Governor fell ill on Tuesday and was airlifted by Amref Flying Doctors to Nairobi Hospital.

According to Koech, the CCM leader has been unwell for past one week with an acute flu which necessitated the immediate move to airlift him to the hospital.

“I wish to notify the members of the public that H.E. Isaac Ruto fell ill on Tuesday, August 9 and was airlifted to Nairobi Hospital by Amref Flying Doctors. He had been unwell for the past one week due to acute flu which necessitated the immediate evacuation from Bomet for thorough medical attention,” Koech stated.

The CCM secretary general, however, stated that the former county boss’s is on his way to recovery and is expected to be discharged any time soon.

He said Ruto regretted that he could not be with his supporters as vote counting continued in his county adding that he will be back.

“H.E. Isaac Ruto regrets that he is not able to be with his supporters during this crucial moment of vote counting. He wishes to assure them that he will be back soon,” read the statement by Koech.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchock on Thursday wished the former governor a quick recovery.

“Wishing Hon Isaac Ruto a quick recovery. May God's healing be your portion. See you soon big brother,” Barchock tweeted.
