The outgoing Meru governor has landed a new position.

Outgoing Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has landed a new position moments after losing his seat in the just concluded August 9 polls. 

Murungi was on Monday sworn in as a member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission by Chief Justice Martha Koome. 

The Chairperson of the commission Ms. Christine Anyango Agimba was also sworn in by the CJ after being appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to serve in the position. 

“Presided over the swearing-in of the Chairperson and Members of the Kenya Law Reform Commission, a semi-autonomous agency under the State Law Office,” CJ Koome stated.

Also sworn in alongside Murungi were lawyer Duncan Okello, law scholar Paul Musili Wambua among others.

“…Ms. Rose Janet Ayugi, Ms. Linda Musilivi Murila, Mr. Duncan Okello, Mr. Paul Musili Wambua and Mr Kiraitu Murungi who were previously appointed to be members of the Commission, on 13th December 2019 also took their Oath of Office,” Koome said.

Murungi was trounced by independent candidate in the Meru governor race Kawira Mwangaza who garnered 209,148 votes.

Mwangaza is the outgoing woman representative for Meru County and she beat both the incumbent governor and senator Mithika Linturi to clinch the seat.

Murungi garnered 110,814 votes with Linturi garnering 183,859 votes.
