Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has accused former Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale of using the late Justus Murunga’s alleged lover to demand Sh200,000 from the deceased’s widow.
Addressing mourners during Murunga’s funeral, Echesa claimed that Khalwale sponsored the court case by a Nairobi lady who alleged that the late MP sired his two children.
According to Echesa, Khalwale used the case to blackmail Murunga’s widows into giving him Sh200,000, failure to which the case would proceed.
"You all saw what happened on TV about the woman who went to court to stop the burial. When I heard about, I called Khadija who told me we cannot proceed with the burial plans because of a court order… One of Murunga's friends, Khalwale, was the one who hired a lawyer for the said woman. Later on, he called one of the widows asking for Sh200,000 to drop the case,” he said.

"My brother Khalwale with due respect, I am the one who held your hands and took you to DP Ruto's office. I want to tell you today, all that you have done to Wanga community is forgiven. We forgive you,” he added.
Reacting to the Echesa, Khalwale dismissed the claims terming them ‘bizzare tirades’.
“We finally laid Hon Justus Makokha Murunga to rest at his home in Matungu this afternoon in a colorful occasion that was punctuated by speeches laden with praise, encouragement to the bereaved, politics of succession & BBI to bizarre tirades from former Minister Rashid. Sad,” he tweeted.
