Sakaja Reveals Millions he Splashed For Agents Only During Elections

Nairobi governor-elect Johnson Sakaja has divulged that he spent millions of shillings to have agents across various polling stations during the August 9, polls.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, the governor-elect noted that elections is an expensive affair for candidates seeking elective seats in Kenya.

He called for the need to digitize the transmission of results to enable candidates save on costs of hiring agents.

"We need to have an electronic transmission for our polls. I have just finished sorting out my agents. It cost me Sh15 million. I had 3,643 agents for three days of work. The rest ilikua kujitolea," Sakaja noted.

The outgoing Nairobi senator won the Nairobi Governor seat after getting 699,392 votes against his closest rival Polycarp Igathe of the Jubilee party who got 573,518 votes.

Sakaja who was endorsed by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance vied on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

He was declared winner by Nairobi County Returning Officer, Albert Gogo.

The Outgoing Senator will now take over from Ann Kananu who took office from Mike Sonko following his impeachment.

The governor’s race had attracted nine candidates but was narrowed down to a two-horse race between Sakaja and Igathe.
