Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has exuded confidence that he will win the gubernatorial race in the ongoing by-election.
Addressing the press after voting on Monday, August 29, Malala noted that he would only concede defeat if he lost fairly in the ongoing elections.
"I will be ready to concede defeat in case I am defeated fairly but in the same breath, I would also like to urge my competitors to concede defeat early enough because I'm certain that I'm the winner of this election," Cleophas Malala.
At the same time, Malala expressed concern about the low voter turnout urging residents to go and vote.
"I have looked at the voter turnout so far it's about 27%. We are still optimistic, ofcourse in any by-election, the voter turnout is approximately between 40-50%. We are trying to mobilize our people to come and vote. We have experienced peace in Kakamega today, I want to commend the residents for having a peaceful elections day," the former Kakamega Senator stated.

He also denied claims of voter bribery in the by-election terming it the most peaceful election he had seen in Kakamega County.
Malala is vying on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket and is facing stiff competition from Fernandes Barasa in succeeding the outing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Barasa, who is vying on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, voted at Bulimbo Primary School in the morning.
"Together with my wife Prof. Janet Kasilly Barasa, we have cast our votes at Bulimbo Primary School. You too should come out and help write the future of Kakamega County," he stated.
