According to Wetangula, Ford-Kenya will not contest in Matungu, while ANC will not field a candidate in Kabuchai.

Over the past month, the Western Kenya region has lost two serving Members of Parliament namely; Justus Murunga (Matungu) and James Lusweti (Kabuchai).

Following the demise of two legislators, Parliament is set to write to the IEBC declaring the two seats vacant, after which IEBC will announce when by-elections will be conducted in the two constituencies.

The late Murunga was a member of the Amani National Congress Party under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi while Lusweti was in Ford Kenya under Senator Moses Wetangula.

In a bid to ensure that their rival party; The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) does not take away the two seats in the upcoming by-election, Mudavadi and Wetangula have hatched a plan to work together, hoping to lock out the Orange party.

According to Wetangula, Ford-Kenya will not contest in Matungu, while ANC will not field a candidate in Kabuchai, this is meant to ensure all votes from supporters of the two parties are channeled towards one candidate.

“Matungu is an ANC zone and we as Ford- K will not field a candidate to compete with our brothers in ANC. And similarly, I know my brother Musalia with his ANC party will not give Ford Kenya unnecessary competition when we embark on the Kabuchai by-election following the demise of our brother John Lusweti Mukwe,” Wetangula said as quoted by a local daily.
