Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party has finally addressed the issue of recruitment and management of agents during the August 9 polls.
Speculations have been rife on social media that Azimio did not have agents in some polling stations in Mt Kenya region.
The issue of payment of agents by Azimio also arose with reports indicating that some agents were not paid for the work done during the polls.
In a statement by Prof Makau Mutua on Sunday, September 11, steering clear of addressing the claims, Mutua said that their agents did fairly a good job.
Mutua noted that it was not the work of the agents to protect the vote or conduct a free and fair election but the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

"For now I want to address one particular issue that has been misunderstood and is being used maliciously. This is the matter of recruitment and management of agents. The issue was managed by a dedicated and a hardworking team. Our view is that the staff did a largely successful job in a challenging environment.
"Importantly, Let me state clearly that the issue of agents was not the cause of a bungled election. We must appreciate that this is not the responsibility of candidates to protect votes, or conduct a free and fair election. That constitutional duty lies squarely with the IEBC working in concert with relevant authorities," part of the statement read.
Mutua went ahead and said that Suna East MP Junet Mohamed did not at one point handle funds meant for payment of the agents.
"Specifically, I have seen scurrilous attacks on Junet Mohamed accusing him of misappropriating funds meant for agents. Let me state without equivocation that Junet was a campaign lead in the field supporting Raila Odinga. He at no time, even once, handle funds meant for agents," Mutua said.
