President William Ruto on Monday, October 10, met with his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Speaking during a joint press conference, the Head of State said that he had agreed with Suluhu to foster trade between the two countries by eliminating cross-border barriers.
President Ruto said that by December 2022, 14 barriers affecting trade between the two nations would have been lifted to allow citizens to trade freely.
“The remaining barriers, we should by December this year concluded that process so that we can allow our people to trade in a better environment,” he said.
The Head of State further said that the first assignment of his Cabinet Ministers after being cleared by Parliament will be to work with their Tanzanian counterparts to eliminate the remaining trade barriers between the two nations.

He further said that the two governments will expedite the construction of a gas pipeline from Dar es Salaam to Mombasa and eventually Nairobi.
President Ruto said that he had agreed with Suluhu to work together in implementing the project so as to reduce the energy tariffs between the two nations.
“Tumekubaliana na Rais (Suluhu) na serikali zetu mbili kwmaba wale wanaohusika sasa tutaiharakisha. Tuko na suluhu ya mambo magumu na mama amesema mimi naitwa Kipchirchir kumaanisha kuharakisha sasa tutakuwa na Suluhu na kuharakisha ndio haya mambo yote yaweze kufanyika,” the president said.
He further promised to foster the relationship between the two nations maintaining that there would be a lot to share if the two nations worked together.
“I have committed to President Suluhu that she can count on my support and goodwill, and her government and my are also going to be available to work for the mutual benefit of the people of our two countries,” President Ruto said.
