Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's husband Murega Baichu has sensationally claimed that he is going through Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Speaking to the media on Friday, October 28, Baichu claimed that he had been denied access to his wife's official county residence.
He alleged he had been forced to go and sleep in their matrimonial house as he was not recognized as an employee of the government.
“Governor alipochaguliwa alipatiwa official residence. Imesemekana kwa maana mimi sio mwajiriwa wa serikali na sijachaguliwa kwa kura, mimi sifai kulala ile residence. Sasa mimi ata pahali pa kulala imebidi ile nyumba ambayo tulijenga na governor ndio nafaa kwenda kulala.
“Ningependa EACC wanisaidie nijue mipaka yangu kwa maana sasa mpaka hapo mimi naona nimefikia ile inaitwa gender-based violence. Gender-based violence sio ya wanawake pekee yake kwa maana sasa pia mimi napitia hiyo,” Baichu stated.

He further stated that he is no longer allowed to be carried by his wife's official vehicle adding that he is forced to use boda boda.
Baichu asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for help in defining his role in the county government of Meru.
Mwangaza appointed her husband as the Meru Youth Service Patron but she maintained that he was not being paid as he was just volunteering.
"He has never received a single coin from the government na hakuna wakati atalipwa na serikali. He is doing it voluntarily kusaidia vijana wetu," Governor Mwangaza said told the press on Friday.
