Former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has abandoned elective politics after decades in politics and public service.
In a post on his social media handles on Saturday, November 12, the former county boss thanked the residents of Makueni County for the opportunity to serve them as an MP and governor.
Prof. Kibwana further thanked his former colleagues and students that taught at the university while serving as a lecturer.
"Today I announced that I have quit elective politics after serving the people of Makueni Constituency (2002-2007)and Makueni County (2013-2022), and 30 years of other public service. Thanks be to God, my former students, co-workers, and those I served," Prof. Kibwana said.
Until his departure from elective politics, Prof. Kibwana had served as the governor of Makueni County for two terms.

He was elected as the first governor of the county in 2013. Prior to becoming governor, he served as a Member of Parliament for the Makueni Constituency between 2002 and 2007.
Prof. Kibwana has also served as a minister during the late retired president Mwai Kibaki's regime and a spokesperson for the National Convention Executive Council (NCEC).
He announced his ambitions in running for the presidency in the 2022 general elections before shelving the ambitions to back the current president William Ruto.
His announcement to quit elective politics was met by mixed reactions from netizens, with some scolding him for not receiving a post in the government after backing President Ruto.
